- The WHO organized the first World Symposium on Pulmonary Hypertension (WSPH) in October 1973 in Geneva, Switzerland.
- The aim of the meeting was to aggregate and share the existing knowledge on pulmonary hypertension, convening specialists from various disciplines.
- Since then, the WHO has defined five different groups of pulmonary hypertensions based on different causes.
